Yasar’s drive
It took me six years to finish secondary school; it just wasn’t really my thing. I played truant a lot and preferred to do odd jobs at my uncle’s garage. He repaired cars and from the age of ten I was allowed to help him. We didn’t tell my parents, but this was the reason I opted to study automotive engineering at senior secondary vocational level in Amersfoort.
I really enjoyed the practical side of the course, the only problem was I couldn’t find a job afterwards. I often hung around on the street and was always getting into arguments at home. I first met Jean at football[FB1] . He saw how much I was struggling and asked me to help out with a construction job. I was immediately hooked; working in a team, the fun we had together, working with my hands, it felt really similar to working in the garage. I have learned so much during the past four years, about the profession and more importantly, about myself. Last year, on R&J’s advice, my girlfriend and I bought our own house.
I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve been able to achieve and it’s fantastic to now have the opportunity to coach the younger members of the R&J team.
